The Mysterious Blood Falls of Antarctica | Blood Falls

Hello friends, did you know that in Antarctica there’s a waterfall whose water is bright red colour. It looks like a waterfall of blood. It named the “BLOOD FALLS”. This was discovered by scientist (geologist Thomas Griffith Taylor) in 1911.  Surprisingly, the water from the waterfall was continuously reddish in colour. The temperature there was -17oC. The water should have frozen in this cold. So how was the water flowing?

The reason behind it the lake beneath the glacier had salty water. The freezing point of salt water is lower than that of pure water. Scientist Found that the red colour was due to the large content of “IRON” in the water. The lake was trapped in a lake, and as it is escaping, coming in contact with air, the iron is giving it the red colour. The same reason due to which iron rust is red in colour.
